Home Visits and Early Hospital Discharge

Why would you need home physiotherapy?

We understand that attending one of our clinics is not always easy or preferable so we offer our wide range of services to people in their home, office or residential care facility. This is helpful for people with acute pain, those unable to travel, or especially in the immediate post-operative period, when physiotherapy treatment is crucial for the most successful outcome.

It is also very important for people currently self isolating to have access to Physio services to help to maintain mobility, activity and adequate pain relief.

Safety of our patients and small team of staff has been and still is our top priority. We are maintaining strict hygiene, personal protection & high cleaning standards to ensure we all remain as safe as possible.

During this time we have increased our availability of HOME VISITS for those who would prefer the comfort of their own home or maybe isolating due to health concerns

Some of the Conditions most people require Physio at Home for:

Post Operative

In hospital you will be given simple exercises to minimize complications such as chest infection or DVT's and generally some early strengthening or range of motion exercises.

However, post surgery, you will generally require exercise progression to fully regain your strength, flexibility and function. The quickest, safest and easiest way to return to your day to day activities is by seeing a physiotherapist experienced in post-operative rehabilitation. Ask your surgeon or Doctor prior to admission if he would like our Physiotherapists to visit you at home post operatively.

We can provide support and home-based therapy to clients who are ready for discharge from hospital care, but require additional support to return home.

Our Physiotherapists at Hindmarsh and Fitzroy Physiotherapy Clinics are skilled in the field of post-operative care. We are familiar with the treatment protocols and can liaise with your Doctor to determine any specific requirements based on your individual surgery. Our Physiotherapists can do a home visit to give you advice and treatment to make you more comfortable and help get you mobile. Follow up rehabilitation can be transferred to our Clinics once you are more mobile and if indicated.

Arranging a visit before your operation is also always a good idea so you can meet your Physio and become familiar with some of the exercises most likely to be needed.

Acute and degenerative pain

We understand that patients with painful conditions, especially the elderly, are not always able to make it into our easily accessible Clinics. Our experienced and caring Physios can visit you at home to help with settling your pain, help you get moving and regain your quality of life and independence .

Balance, strength, mobility, general de-conditioning and falls prevention

Sometimes you just need help to keep you moving and able to manage your normal activities such as walking, getting out of bed and chairs but not sure who to contact. A Physiotherapist is skilled in helping with function and mobility. We can help with referrals to other Allied Health to keep you at home.

In conjunction with home visits for post op, short term and acute pain episodes, our Physiotherapists are also skilled and concerned with maximizing mobility and independence so people can stay in their home longer and can experience an improved quality of life.

Vertigo and vestibular dysfunction

Although we generally prefer to see patients in our rooms for these conditions, a home visit may be the only option.
